Before coming to UFC, Bo Nickal was already a superstar and proved himself in various different stages. He won the 2019 U23 World Championship and the US Open National Championship in freestyle wrestling. Bo Nickal participated in the 2019 Final X competition and finished third at the US Olympic Team Trials for 2020. He won the Big Ten conference three times and the Division I national wrestling championship three times while competing for Penn State. In the 92 kg (202.8 lb) weight class in 2019, he won both a national championship and a world championship for under-23 athletes. Bo Nickal had a combined 61-0 record in his junior and senior years, helping him graduate college with a 120-3 record overall.

Nickal got his shot at UFC after performing well and winning two fights at the Dana White Contender Series 49 and 50. After that in his debut, he continued his winning momentum by defeating Jamie Pickket via submission.

Bo Nickal was born in Rifle, Colorado, and at a young age moved to Wyoming. At the very young age of five, Nickal was into wrestling and started training. His parents are both athletes and this helped young Nickal to be focused while pursuing wrestling. Nickal followed Olympic wrestlers such as John Smith as a child and trained hard throughout his early days. All his background in wrestling is something that will definitely help the fighter in his future MMA bouts.
