“Will retire from boxing to fight Jorge Masvidal in the UFC,” says Jake Paul but- he has some conditions for President Dana White
Jake Paul- Dana White
Youtuber-cum-boxer Jake Paul is all in for some entertainment, some fights and for some entertaining bets before the fights. However, this time, the bet Paul has put against UFC President Dana White might change the course of the financial structure of the UFC, only if White accepts. Paul has recently become a viral figure to talk about in the combat sports world due to his last fight in December 2021 against Tyron Woodley where Paul knocked out Woodley in the sixth round of the fight, bringing on one of the biggest upsets in all of combat sports history.
Paul is not only talked about being accepted as a fighter now that he has 2 MMA world champions in his record, with beating Woodley twice and Ben Askren, but is also in the bad books many central figures of combat sports, such as UFC megastars Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal, and even UFC President Dana White. White was recently seen in legendary boxing trainer Teddy Atlas’ podcast where he put forth a challenge to Jake Paul which laid that he can cocaine test himself for 10 straight years if Paul allows him to steroids test him for 2 years.
Jake Paul wants Dana White to contribute half of UFC’s annual revenues to the UFC roster
It must be in revenge for being challenged that Paul laid out an even bigger challenge, in a tweet that said, “Happy new year @danawhite. Here is a real challenge for you… I will immediately retire from boxing and fight Jorge Masvidal in the UFC if you agree to:“ and then Paul attached a photo with the tweet that laid out all the conditions that White should agree to in order for Paul to fight UFC megastar Masvidal in the UFC as per the aforementioned tweet. The conditions laid out in the photo were:
- Increase Minimum fighter pay per fight to $50k (it’s $12k now)
- Guarantee UFC Fighters 50% of UFC annual revenues ($1 bn in 2021)
- Provide longterm health care to all the fighters (you previously said brain damage was a part of the gig… imagine the NFL said that). There are many UFC alums who have publicly said they are suffering from brain damage.
Paul then gave the deadline to accept this request within 5 days of the announcement of this challenge, which means White has time to accept the challenge latest by January 6, 2022. In the end, Paul tried to put on a heartfelt note that said he wants the fighters to take a stand for themselves and create value for themselves and their peers. He tried to make fighters aware of their rights to higher pay and health care. He has affirmed that he is not an enemy but an advocate “who selfishly wants to KO” a few of them to make some big bank.
What do you make of Jake Paul’s conditions in order to accept fighting with Jorge Masvidal inside the cage? Do you think Dana White would accept these conditions to make the fight happen, especially considering Masvidal and Paul have been in intense Twitter back and forth and the bad blood is as legit as it seems to the world? If in an unusual turn of events this fight between Paul and Masvidal ever happens, who do you think wins?
Finally, a year into this experimentation of crossover fights between a boxer like Paul and many MMA fighters like Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren going in for money and for experience, how do you rate the entertainment aspect of this whole new scenario opened up in combat sports?
