Francis Ngannou recently took a viral knockout loss against Anthony Joshua. This was a surprise to many fans and athletes alike because of Ngannou’s impressive performance against Tyson Fury. Former UFC champion, Kamaru Usman reacted to this on his recent podcast episode. Here is what happened:
Kamaru Usman co-hosts a brand new podcast called Pound 4 Pound with Kamaru & Harry. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ expressed his feelings about Anthony Joshua knocking out Francis Ngannou. Usman said:
It was a really, really tough one to watch. Yeah, it's a tough one. I can't really put it in the words. But I think you can always point to different things that might have played a factor here and there but the result, it is what it is. Kamaru Usman is a former UFC welterweight champion. He is also a close friend and training partner of Ngannou. As such, he admitted it was a tough pill to swallow seeing his friend go down like that. However, Usman also praised Anthony Joshua for his humility and professionalism. He applauded Joshua for showing the true meaning of being a technical boxer. He further claimed that Joshua was at his ever best against Ngannou.
Usman continued by saying that losing is guaranteed in combat sports, especially for those with long careers. He highlighted how athletes put their bodies on the line every time they step into the cage. The former champion continued by reiterating the unpredictable nature of the fight game. Despite Ngannou’s loss, Usman remains confident in his abilities and said he would come back stronger.
What did Francis Ngannou say about the knockout loss to Anthony Joshua?
Francis Ngannou paid respect to Joshua’s punch after getting knocked out in the second round. However, he remained open to continuing boxing and promised to make a comeback.
Ngannou said he did not feel the punch and that is what the knockout is about. He said it was not his day and Anthony Joshua was simply way better than him. ‘The Predator’ claimed that Joshua was special because he stopped him.
