Chael Sonnen breaks down the hotly debated UFC middleweight GOAT discussion

Chael Sonnen joins the debate for the best middleweight of all time and defends his opinion with facts. 

After Israel Adesanya’s successful title defense against Robert Whittaker at UFC 271, the discussion regarding the greatest middleweight of all time has been a hot topic. And the top contenders in the discussion are Adesanya and Anderson Silva. 

While everyone is jumping into the discussion for giving their opinions, ESPN MMA recently shared a tweet of the middleweight Mount Rushmore featuring the top fighters to ever compete. The edited picture consisted of Silva, Adesanya, Michel Bisping, Chirs Weidman, etc. The post created a lot of buzz and fans shared their own opinions and changes in the top five.

Sonnen recently put out a youtube video on his official channel where he explained his theory for the best middleweight of all time. 

Sonnen took the reference of ESPN MMA’s recent post about middleweight Mount Rushmore and discussed his opinion. The former UFC superstar suggested while considering the top five greatest middleweight UFC fighters of all time that Adesanya has beaten most of them. On top of that, when ‘The Spider’ went against Izzy he lost which makes the whole concept even more clear.

“If you look at the top five… Adesanya beat four of them. The only one he didn’t beat is the one he didn’t fight, who is Chirs Widman. So, if you have a top-five and Adesanya beat the four other best guys then you’ve now found your answer. And that’s before you tie in the fact Adesanya and Anderson went head to head and Adesanya won,” said Sonnen.

Sonnen also argued that retired fighters like Daniel Cormier and Michael Bisping are choosing Silva because they defeated him. And it gives them extra credit for beating the best of all time. 

Silva has done a lot for the division and during his time he was untouchable but now the torch has been transferred. Many fans believe that Adesanya, if not yet, is on the way to being the best middleweight of all time in the future.
