Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal are set to headline UFC 272 on March 5. The fight is roaming around for almost two years and fans can’t wait to see these two inside the octagon. Colby Covington explains the things which began the heat with the former best friends and teammate Jorge Masvidal.
Covington stated that the beef with Masvidal started when he had defeated Rafael Dos Anjos for the interim WW championship. Masvidal had never won a championship in the UFC and he was jealous of the fact that Covington had won the UFC interim title and had all the hype around him.
Covington went on to say nasty personal things about Masvidal. He mentioned Jorge’s relationship with his wife and kids. He went on a rant that how Jorge has become something he said he used to hate. Masvidal is carrying a fake character. He also blasted him for training with Jake Paul.
Colby Covington was almost released from the UFC before the Maia fight
Colby Covington was a wrestler who had a decent career in the UFC but the UFC was not too happy with his fight style. Before his fight with Damian Maia in Brazil, he was informed that he would be released from his UFC contract. But Covington won the fight and cut a promo like a WWE heel would do. Daniel Cormier was doing the octagon interview and he was shocked by the reactions Covington got from the crowd.
Covington carried the persona after the fight and started a verbal war with everybody in the Welterweight division. Covington knew he was a good fighter but he needed to be more entertaining. His post-fight interview got a lot of attention from the fans and thus the UFC decided not to let him go.
Meanwhile, Masvidal was going through a rough skid losing back-to-back fights with Damian Maia and Stephen Thompson. Masvidal took a break from fighting before returning to the octagon in 2019 and having the best year of his life in MMA.
At UFC 272 the beef between the bitter rivals will finally get settled. It would interesting to see how this fight would play out as both have shared different ideas about how it played in the gym when they use to train.
