‘I don’t know if he can beat up his wife still’- Colby Covington dismisses Jon Jones as a potential title threat

‘I don’t know if he can beat up his wife still’- Colby Covington dismisses Jon Jones as a potential title threat

Colby Covington roasts Jon Jones

Jon Jones can be sure of the fact that Colby Covington does not encourage his heavyweight championship ambition one bit.

UFC welterweight superstar Colby Covington does not hold back one bit as he talks about UFC legend Jon Jones’ ambition to become the heavyweight champion in the year 2022. Jon has been teasing a move to the heavyweight division for almost a year now but is yet to step into the octagon since 2020.

Jones recently posted a picture of him in the gym and vowed to become the champion of the heavyweight division in 2022. “I said I’ll be champion in 2022, that’s exactly what I’m going to do. I feel like I’m jumping three weight classes, going from competing at 205 pounds to 265 pounds is no easy task. Nothing great happened overnight, I’m patient and I’m working my ass off every day towards my goals,” he wrote on Instagram.

Jones’ words may sound promising but not to Covington. “Chaos” is not buying into the hype one bit and absolutely rips the former light heavyweight champion in a recent sit-down with MMA reporter Helen Yee. “Absolutely not. I mean, I don’t even know he can beat up his wife still. I mean the guy is pathetic. He is just grasping in straws right now,” said Colby.

Colby Covington does not understand how Jones is in the P4P rankings still

Jones has not fought since the beginning of February in the UFC. The former champion last beat Dominick Reyes at UFC 247 before announcing his move to the heavyweight division. The fighter, however, despite his inactivity is still in the pound-for-pound rankings. In the recently updated rankings, Jon Jones is placed at #6 for P4P. Covington is not happy with that at all.

“How is still even in the pound for pound rankings? The only person Jones has beaten in the last two or three years is his wife,” said Colby said referring to Jones’ recent trouble with the law after a domestic violence case. “How is he still credible to be a pound-for-pound fighter? The guy is washed up. Like Dana White said it himself, ‘He is the biggest waste of talent’.”

“I don’t think we should see that guy fight again, he has declined. All the partying, the steroids, the drugs. That guy’s mad. He’s a rat, a mess. He needs to get his life together before thinking about fighting again.”
