Conor McGregor
Conor McGregor has truly been one of the biggest names in the sport of MMA. However, he has not been on his best behavior in the past. One of the most infamous incidents involving McGregor was the Irishman throwing a dolly on a bus that was transporting UFC fighters.
The Irishman was on a sabbatical for almost two years as he went on to fight boxing legend Floyd Mayweather in a cross-promotional bout. However, in 2018, the Notorious One made an appearance in one of UFC’s biggest events, UFC 223. This time, not very pleasant for Conor McGregor or the fighters on the card.
McGregor flew all the way to Brooklyn to avenge his friend Artem Lobov’s honor and hurt Khabib Nurmagomedov. McGregor showed up at the Barclays Center to confront Khabib and threw a steel dolly through the window of the bus carrying Khabib, Rose Namajunas, Michael Chiesa, and other fighters. After this bus attack, some of the fighters in the bus were injured and it led to McGregor having to face the courts for his actions.
When Conor faced the court in 2018, he was initially facing a maximum sentence in prison of 11 years. The fighter was charged with several misdemeanors, 13 counts of menacing, and 4 counts of assault. The fighter, however, was granted permission to return to Ireland on a bail of $50,000.
How Conor McGregor got out of the case
It was very sure that the Irishman was going to face a prison sentence. Even the UFC president Dana White was sure that the biggest superstar of the sport will be going to jail. White was absolutely disgusted with the behavior and accused as he was explaining what happened to the reporter right after the incident. Michael Chiesa, a welterweight fighter was hurt and was cut in his head by the shattered glass piece.
The courtroom drama came to an end and the former two-division champion plead guilty. The fighter was dismissed of all counts and was forced to undergo five days of community service and 3 days of anger management evaluation by the Kings County Courthouse in Brooklyn, New York. McGregor not only caused damage to the property of the MMA company but also led to the injury of fighters inside the bus.
This infamous incident however turned out to be the brewing point of what would be the greatest MMA rivalry in history. Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov then were booked for UFC 229 to settle their beef inside the octagon in which the Dagestani got the last laugh.
