Cory Sandhagen vs Petr Yan booked for the interim bantamweight title at UFC 267

UFC 267’s co-main event was put on a halt as UFC’s bantamweight champion Aljamain “Funky” Sterling had to step out of his fight against fellow contender and preceding bantamweight champion Petr “No Mercy” Yan. The news was initially reported by MMA Fighting and was confirmed by various other sources.

The reason for the backout is most certainly the career-threatening health issues Sterling has been suffering from since his high school wrestling days. Recently, his neck disc was replaced with a titanium disc in critical surgery. He was supposed to fight Yan to avenge a controversial win from the former champion at UFC 259 where Sterling was illegally kneed on the face by Yan that caused a decision of victory in favor of Sterling, making him a disputed champion.

Now that he is out from this fight, an interim title match between Petry Yan and Cory Sandhagen has been booked as the co-main event of UFC 267. Sandhagen lost the number one contender bout to T.J Dillashaw earlier this year, but Dillashaw is also recovering from a knee injury.

Tyron Woodley recently got the “I Love Jake Paul” tattoo, to get possible revenge against the Youtuber turned boxer. He lost the first bout via split decision, and many criticized him for getting involved with so-called fighters. One such fighter was the bantamweight champion, Aljamain Sterling, he called out Woodley for the same and got trolled by Yan with a solid reply.

Sterling wrote on Twitter: “Maybe I’m crazy, but I just feel “MY” dignity is worth more than the payday for a rematch like this. Maybe it’s bc I’m not in that situation but it’s like will things really be different? Woodley has all tools in the world, and has been on top with those skills. Different times.“

Petr Yan replied, “You lost your dignity when you cried to get the belt idiot.”
