Curtis Blaydes

Curtis Blaydes is ranked the number 4 heavyweight in the division coming into the fight against Chris Daukaus at UFC Fight Night Columbus.

At the post-fight press conference, Curtis revealed that he was patient while going after the Heavyweight Belt. Curtis has been in the fight game since 2014 and he’s just ensured that his name stays relevant with his dominant win. He’s confident that he will become a champion and isn’t in any rush. Cutis believes that he will be in the fight game for 8 more years and that’s plenty of time to win the belt.

His win over Daukaus doesn’t excite him greatly as Daukaus doesn’t have the resume that Junior Dos Santos has. Knocking out somebody with a resume that impressive is next on his list. When asked if he’d prefer Ciryl Gane or Stipe Miocic for his fight on the way to the title, he said that he didn’t have a preference. It doesn’t matter who he fights as a win over either of them would lead to a title fight. He doesn’t have any animosity towards them so either of them will do.

Curtis walked into the fight to make a statement, ignoring his usual wrestling and looking to strike with Daukaus. Quite unusual considering his wrestling-heavy approach.

The first round saw both exchange heavy shots. Blaydes looked better on the feet and managed to open up a cut over Daukaus’ left eye. Both of them came out firing in the first round, Curtis found his target first, landing a counter right which put Daukaus down. Daukaus wasn’t allowed any room to recover as Curtis jumped on him and finished the fight with ground and pound.
