“Not Tony,” Dana White planning for Nate Diaz next fight

“Not Tony,” Dana White planning for Nate Diaz next fight

Nate Diaz- Dana White- Tony Ferguson

We all have been hyped up so well recently by Nate Diaz posting a picture of Tony Ferguson on Twitter, it was the call of a fight long in waiting. But unfortunately, this potential matchup is not on Dana White‘s radar to organise as of now. The UFC President confirmed on the post-event media scrum of UFC Vegas 41 that Diaz does have only one fight left in his contract and the company is working to give him his next opponent.

After this fight, Nate Diaz is a free agent, and by many predictions, he may experiment on his fighting career and if he signs out of the company, this will be the end of his 14-year tenure in the company. Just before anyone could word on who Diaz’s last opponent should be, the Stockton, California native posted a picture of UFC lightweight Tony Ferguson holding his interim UFC title.

Even Tony Ferguson seemed to be down with it on Twitter. He had a GIF to respond to Diaz’s tweet with the caption “Hootie-Hoo-CSO [CSO meaning Champ Sh*t Only]”. In response to all this, the fans were just excited to watch the exchange going on and direly expressed their need to watch this fight happen.

What Dana White said on Nate Diaz’s last fight in the current contract

“Yeah, this is [going to be Nate’s] last fight we are working on a fight with him. Tony [Ferguson] was not one of the guys we were working on but we’re working on a fight for Nate now he’s got one fight left,” said Dana White. This was enough to pull the hopes back down.

Nate Diaz last fought at UFC 263 where he lost a five-round entertainer against UFC Welterweight Leon Edwards, the fight was the first non-title, non-main-event fight to be allowed to go to five rounds in UFC history. After that, Nate and UFC Welterweight Vincente Luque were going back and forth in making their fight but the deal doesn’t seem to come to fruition. Now it seems like Diaz’s other choice of opponent is futile too.

Ferguson on the other hand was on a 3-fight skid, preceded by which he was on a 12-fight winning streak until Justin Gaethje ended his run last year. Diaz was also on a 2-fight skid, the match was aligning well considering their recent fight record and star status. Seems like we need to think and predict another exciting opponent for Diaz and wish White doesn’t crash that at least.
