Dana White lays out the condition to renew Francis Ngannou’s contract

Dana White talks about Francis Ngannou's future in the UFC

UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou has been pretty unhappy with UFC regarding his contract. The company introduced an interim heavyweight strap after six months of Ngannou becoming the champion.

Francis expressed his concern over the issue, and recently Dana claimed that they won’t force Ngannou to renew his contract with the UFC. Many were surprised by the news, as the champ is booked to defend his belt against the interim heavyweight champion, Ciryl Gane at UFC 270.

Ngannou’s manager revealed that the UFC hasn’t talked about Ngannou’s renewing his contract for the past six months. Dana recently addressed this issue on his appearance on Teddy Atlas’ podcast. He said, “Francis and I bumped into each other the other night at dinner. And we had a good talk. And he’s not out of the contract if he wins that fight. I think he’s got one more fight with us after that.”

People accuse Dana of underpaying his fighters, but it’s pretty evident that many athletes made a fortune for themselves while working with the UFC, Dana pointed this out as well, he said,  “I say it all the time: this sport’s fun for me. I love doing this. And contrary to the narrative out there, we’ve made a lot of people very wealthy. And if you don’t wanna be here, if this is not where you wanna be, well, that’s not fun for you and it’s definitely not fun for me, either.”

“Francis and I had a good conversation. I think Francis has been misguided, too, by some people that aren’t very bright. That doesn’t help, either, when you got some people behind you that have no f—ng clue what they’re talking about. It doesn’t help your situation,” Dana concluded.
