“He’s not fighting till 2022,” Dana White confirms that he is not thinking about Jon Jones till next year

Dana White and Jon Jones

UFC President Dana White talks about the promotion’s heavyweight division now that they have two champions after Ciryl Gane became the interim heavyweight champion.

Dana White is very clear with what he has to do with the heavyweight division when it comes to the title and the debut of superstar Jon Jones. After UFC 265, White was asked in the post-fight press conference about the situation with Jon Jones and it looks like “Bones” is the last concern for the White this year. According to Dana, the fight to focus on is the unification bout between Francis Ngannou and Ciryl Gane.

“He’s not fighting till next year,” White said about Jones at the UFC 265 post-fight press conference. “It’s 2021. He’s not fighting until [2022]. I’m not even thinking about him until ’22.” Jones was supposed to fight Francis after he became the champion but fighter pay issues have caused it to postpone.

Dana White says he doesn’t know what to do with Stipe Miocic

Another top fighter that is still waiting to avenge his loss is Stipe Miocic. Miocic lost his heavyweight belt to Francis at UFC 260 and has been wanting a rematch. But the division doesn’t seem to be including the former champ’s name in the mix for the next fights. Recently Stipe also went on a Social Media rant about not being treated right by the promotion.

“I don’t know,” White said about Miocic. “The beautiful thing about this division right now is we had this fight tonight. Now Francis versus Ciryl, you’ve got Jones out there in 2022 and you got Stipe out there still, too. That means there’s a lot of fun coming up over the next year, year and a half.”
