“I never gave that kid the credit he deserved”- Dana White thanks Leon Edwards for all he’s done for the UFC
Leon Edwards and Dana White
Leon Edwards is unbeaten in his last 10 fights, and he did everything to secure his rematch against the welterweight champ, Kamaru Usman. After defeating top-ranked opponents one after the other, the champ, and Dana White finally decided to provide him with a much-deserved title shot.
His last fight came against Nate Diaz, and after dominating him for over 24 minutes, he got stunned by a straight, and it changed people’s opinion about his title contention. Leon, however, kept his calm and waited for his opportunity. After defeating his arch-nemesis, Colby Covington in a title rematch, he claimed Leon is next in line for the title, and there’s no other war around it.
Talking to Aaron Bronsteter, Dana also claimed that there’s no one else, who deserves a title shot more than him. He said, “100 percent. That kid’s had a rough run. He deserves it. If you look at it, Colby lost to (Usman) twice, Gilbert lost, Leon’s next. He’s number three.”
Dana claimed Leon is a real gangster and he never turned down a fight against anyone, he was even offered a fight against Khamzat Chimaev, and he signed the dotted line when no one else was willing to do the same, “I’m bringing it up for a reason because I said that and never gave that kid the credit he deserved. He said yes to it, signed the bout agreement, and was ready to roll,” Dana concluded.
“Until he quits”- Kamaru Usman highlights his complete game-plan for the Leon Edwards fight
In their previous encounter, Usman used his dominant wrestling to get the win against Edwards. Usman then went on an absolute tear, and he has grown leaps and bounds as a striker. He’s been training under the wing of Trevor Whittman, and his knockout against Jorge Masvidal is one of the most brutal ones we’ve seen so far.
Leon in an interview claimed Usman’s new profound love for striking would be his demise, the champ took notice of this comment and promised Leon to give him a wrestling clinic. “I give it to you[Leon], I will not strike but will wrestle. I’m going to take him down and I’m going to beat on his face until he quits,” Usman said in an interview with MMA Junkie.
