“I’m in my prime right now… I’m ready to go”- Daniel Rodriguez calls out Belal Muhammad
Daniel Rodriguez and Belal Muhammad
Daniel Rodriguez is down for whatever. He says bring on Belal Muhammad. Following his victory over Kevin Lee at UFC Fight Night: Barboza vs Chikadze, the American broke into the top 15 of the welterweight division rankings. The former Bellator fighter is brimming with confidence, and is raring to get back into the Octagon.
In a recent interview with TMZ Sports, D-Rod called out number 9 ranked welterweight Belal Muhammad, before going on to state that he needed only 2 more wins for getting a shot at the title ( a bit farfetched?). But, he also justified his stance by saying how he had fought 7 times in the last 18 months alone.
“A lot of fighters take a lot of time off” – Daniel Rodriguez
Daniel Rodriguez was quoted as saying, “I think Belal Muhammad at No. 9 (is who I want next). I’m on the fast track, man. I’ve fought in the past 18 months – this is my seventh fight. (UFC president) Dana (White) is really happy with that. That’s really unheard of nowadays. A lot of fighters take a lot of time off. But I’m in my prime right now. I’m ready to go. I’m hot.” [via MMA Junkie]
He continued, “I don’t really see him taking me down. I just survived Kevin Lee, which everyone was saying he was a really, really good wrestler. At the end of the day, the fight starts on the feet, and that’s my world.” [via MMA Junkie]
Daniel Rodriguez is currently on a three-fight winning streak. His last loss was against Nicolas Dalby at UFC 255 in November 2020, which he lost via. unanimous decision. Never been knocked out in his career, Rodriguez is a tough nut to crack. His MMA record reads 16 wins and just 2 losses, both via. decision.
Belal Muhammad, on the other hand, is coming off a win over Demian Maia at UFC 263. ‘Remember the Name’ is unbeaten in his last six fights, with his last loss coming against Geoff Neal, back in January 2019. He is a pretty active fighter as well, like Rodriguez.
