Stipe Miocic Jon Jones Daniel Cormier
Now that Francis Ngannou has suffered from a knee injury, Daniel Cormier believes fans can expect Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic in 2022.
At UFC 270, Ngannou defended his heavyweight title against Cyril Gane and defeated his opponent via unanimous decision. The French-Cameroonian showed impressive MMA skills and totally dominated Gane throughout the fight. While fans were expecting him to use his power and knock out Gane in the initial rounds, Ngannou shocked the world with his wrestling which also threw his challenger from his gameplan.
After the fight, Ngannou revealed that he was suffering from a knee injury and had to endure the pain while fighting. According to the fighter, he suffered a torn MCL and damaged ACL during one of his sparring sessions. The UFC heavyweight champion will have to undergo knee surgery before he starts his next training camp and steps into the octagon.
Due to the surgery, Ngannou will most probably be out of the Octagon for nine months now. This is going to be a crucial period for all the other heavyweights to shine. Every other fighter in the division who has lost to Ngannou will now look forward get the title shot again.
Daniel Cormier suggests an Interim title fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic
Cormier was recent with Ryan Clark on their ESPN show DC & RC. On the show both the hosts discussed upcoming UFC events, performances of fighters, and potential fights.
During the conversation, Cormier revealed that with Ngannou being out of the spotlight due to his injury there is a huge possibility that the UFC will keep the fans engaged with other heavyweight match-ups. One of the major ones is the Stipe Miocic vs Jon Jones fight. According to the former UFC double champion, Jones and Miocic can fight for the heavyweight Interim title this year. When Ngannou comes back after recovering his injury the winner of the Interim bout will fight him. This way a humongous PPV event can automatically be created.
“I think we will see another Interim title and for me what makes sense for that Interim title is Stipe Miocic vs Jon Jones. I think you put these two together and then no matter who wins when Francis comes back you have a massive fight waiting for him,” said DC.
