‘I think this might be it for Stipe… He’s punch drunk and has been hit too many times’ – Derrick Lewis believes Stipe Miocic is finished
Stipe Miocic and Derrick Lewis
Stipe Miocic was destroyed by Francis Ngannou at UFC 260. The Cleveland man was knocked out by a short left hook from Ngannou, which saw him fold like a chair to the canvas. Miocic thereby relinquished his heavyweight title, as Ngannou became the first African Heavyweight champion.
Ngannou is now expected to defend his title against number 2 ranked heavyweight contender Derrick Lewis. The pair have already met at UFC 226, which is considered to be one of the most boring main events in the history of the UFC. Lewis won the fight via. unanimous decision.
‘The Black Beast’ recently caught with the Schmo, and had his say on Stipe Miocic’s future in the UFC. Lewis didn’t seem convinced about the consensus heavyweight GOAT’s future, saying that he wouldn’t find success again in his career.
‘I don’t think he’s going anywhere up in his career after that‘ – Derrick Lewis on Stipe Miocic
Lewis was quoted as saying, “I think this might be it for Stipe. He’s punch drunk and has been hit too many times. I don’t think he’s going anywhere up in his career after that.”
Miocic is still the number 1 ranked heavyweight contender, he still has a chance to fight the Cameroonian, if he can cement his claim as the number 1.
Lewis and Miocic have never crossed paths inside the octagon. They might probably, if Lewis goes on to lose to Ngannou, and Miocic stays waiting for an opponent.
Miocic recently stated that he has been putting on weight, and was willing to fight at 250lbs. He even seemed to hint at a rematch – a trilogy bout, against the Predator. However, given the way he was battered at UFC 260, it is less likely that it would happen in the near future.
