UFC fans are in for a treat as the promotion is in the works for one of the most exciting heavyweight matchups. Derrick Lewis vs Tai Tuivasa has been added to the exciting card of UFC 271.
UFC heavyweight fan-favorite, Derrick Lewis gets another opportunity to please his fans as he returns to the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. The heavyweight monster is matched up against the rising star Tai Tuivasa, who is also another massive fan favorite. Both these fighters are set to light up the arena on February 12th at UFC 271.
The news of this matchup was first reported by MMA Junkie reporter Farah Hannoun. Lewis has just broken the record for most knockouts in the history of the promotion while Tuivasa is having the best run of his life. Both the fighters are known for their devastating knockouts and their great personality. There is no doubt that this matchup will end up being a banger.
Can Tai Tuivasa get the better of Derrick Lewis?
Tuivasa is having the time of his life. The 28-year-old heavyweight is on a four-fight winning streak and has finished all of them by knockout. Tuivasa has managed to become a massive favorite in a short amount of time. He is one of the youngest heavyweights on the roster and is ranked #11 in the heavyweight chart.
However, beating Derrick is no joke. The fighter is just coming off a brutal KO victory against the talented Chris Daukaus at UFC Fight Night 199. Lewis bounced back from his devastating title fight defeat and is on his way to fight the rest of the division. This will be a huge fight for the “Black Beast” to return to Houston and put on a show for his home fans which he failed to do at UFC 265.
Derrick had said in a recent interview that he is hoping to please his home fans by putting on a show in the octagon. Lewis was however targeting a fight with the former heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic. UFC 271 will be headlined by a middleweight rematch between Israel Adesanya vs Robert Whittaker.
