“My beef with Francis I’m done”- Fernand Lopez finally buries the hatchet with Francis Ngannou after UFC 270
Fernand Lopez on Francis Ngannou
Francis Ngannou defended his undisputed heavyweight title against the interim champ, Ciryl Gane at the main event of UFC 270. These two were former training partners, but this wasn’t the main story of this fight. Ngannou and Gane used to train under the mentorship of Fernand Lopez.
The partnership between Lopez and Ngannou fell out, when he decided to leave France, and train in America. These two went at each other all throughout the fight week, and things got really heated. Now that the fight is over, Lopez buried the hatchet with Ngannou, he spoke about it during his appearance at MMA Hour.
He said, “When I crossed the octagon, the day Ciryl loose the fight, when I crossed the octagon, and shake Francis’ hand, that was my way to say ok buddy this is over, I’m done. If you ever ask me a question of Francis again, the kind of question that can be negative, I’d just say to you, ‘I’m not talking about this.’ If you ask me anything that can be in the reality in the actuality, obviously I’m a MMA person so I would talk about it. But my beef with Francis is done, like he can say whatever he want, again on me and Francis, I’m not responding anything it is done, over.”

Lopez then explained what happned behind the stage, apparently he had a pretty meaningful conversation with Ngannou’s manager, and the welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman. Usman asked him to leave all this rivalry behind and move on. Usman has been really supportive of Ngannou, and he believes in having a healthly relationship with everyone.
“I shook his hand. We spent like five seconds or maybe four seconds looking each other in the eye when we shook hands. But I talked for maybe five minutes with Marquel, Francis’ manager… when Ciryl was in the medical check. And I talked also with, I hugged very sincerely Eric Nicksick… Also when I shook Kamaru Usman’s hand, he said to me, ‘Fernand, we’re brothers. Let’s stop this. Let’s move on,” said Lopez.
