Frankie Edgar has once again silenced all his critics with his remarkable performance. After moving down to bantamweight, he once again shown his class at UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas.
Edgar defeated Pedro Munhoz by a split decision (48-47, 46-49, 48-47) in his debut fight. Edgar is the former lightweight champion and was also a featherweight contender. Now, against all odds, he has knocked out top bantamweight Pedro Munhoz.
With this, Edgar registered himself in the list of fighters who have won in three divisions. He became the 11th one. After the fight, Edgar responded to his critics and claimed that he proved them wrong. In fact, he did.
“I proved all them wrong. I still got some fight in this tank, and we’re gonna make a run at [135].”, Edgar said.
The fight took place at UFC Apex in Las Vegas in front of no crowd. “I’m showing I can compete with the best at 38 years old,” Edgar said. “I don’t want to hear nothing from nobody.”
Dana White impressed with Edgar’s performance
The UFC President Dana White was also impressed with the spectacular performance out by the 38 year old fighter. He said that Edgar has been unbelievable. “The fact that he’s still performing the way he’s performing at his age with all the wars that he’s been through, and all the things he’s accomplished, yeah, I’d say he looked pretty damn good tonight.”, White added.
The fight was later awarded as the Fight of the Night and both the fighters were awarded with $50,000. The strikes combined for the most in UFC bantamweight history (301). Out of these, Munhoz landed 166 Edgar had 135.
