Jan Blachowicz def. Aleksandar Rakic via TKO injury
Aleksandar Rakic saw the worst possible end to his potential title contender fight against Jan Blachowicz at UFC Vegas 54.
Aleksandar Rakic took on Jan Blachowicz for the #1 contender fight in the main event of UFC Vegas 54. “The Rocket” was aiming high to secure his spot as the next title contender but a great fight ended in an upset as he suffered a devastating injury. Rakic and Jan fought in the main event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Rakic and Jan were going toe-to-toe in the first two rounds of the fight where Aleksandar even got the better of the former title holder. Within the first minute of the fight, Rakic managed to draw first blood with his punches to Jan’s face. In the second round, Rakic also almost submitted Jan but Blachowicz played the long game of chewing Rakic’s leg which in turn led to the injury of the fighter.
Though Jan’s leg kicks did not directly lead to the dislocation of Rakic’s knee it sure did force Aleksandar on his back foot and put all the weight on it. UFC fighters and several other MMA aces reacted to this incident and shared their thoughts on Twitter.
Belal Muhammad, Johnny Walker and others react to Aleksandar Rakic’s injury
Former UFC double champ and senior UFC analyst, Daniel Cormier gave his thoughts on what might have led to the Rakic injury. “ACL I bet. Unfortunate for Rakic. Good fight by both guys to that point.”
No fighter in the world would wish a dislocated knee on their opponents, not even their biggest enemy. Watching Rakic get stopped by an injury surely troubled Belal Muhammad, the top-ranked welterweight fighter. “Ughhhh hate to see a fight end like that there’s so many ways to get hurt in a fight.”
Johnny Walker, the fellow light heavyweight contender really wishes Rakic could be back as soon as possible. “Fuck. Never nice seeing a fighter get badly hurt like that. Congrats to Jan and praying for a quick recovery for Rakic,” wrote Walker in his tweet. “Seeing someone else blow their knee out worst thing honestly,” wrote Casey O’Neill.
