“Go after the financial part outside the UFC”- Paulo Costa blames UFC for not paying their fighters enough, suggests them to look for other ways
Paulo Costa
The number 2nd ranked UFC Middleweight fighter, Paulo Costa faced a unanimous decision loss against the number 5th ranked Middleweight fighter, Marvin Vettori at the main event of UFC Vegas 41. Costa showed up ridiculously overweight for this fight and after a series of alterations, this fight got scheduled for the Light Heavyweight weight category.
After his loss, Paulo Costa claimed that he got a bicep tear during the preparation camp for his fight and that was the reason he wasn’t able to make weight. But ‘The Italian Dream’ Marvin Vettori finds this reason a complete lie and everyone in the MMA community ridiculed Costa for his disrespectful attitude towards his opponent and the entire MMA community.
UFC president Dana White was extremely pissed off by Costa’s behavior, and he made it very clear that they won’t tolerate such behavior from any athlete, and Costa might have to compete in the light heavyweight division in the future. Costa was pretty hell-bent on fighting in the middleweight, and he stated he was injured and that’s why he couldn’t make the weight.
“UFC pays too little but has high promotional power“- Paulo Costa critized UFC for paying too low, but admits it has high promotional value
He recently called out Marvin Vettori for a rematch during an interview with Ag. Fight, but he also talked about the possibility of trying his luck out in boxing. According to Costa, boxing pay a lot more, but that’s only for the short-term, he would like to use the promotional value of the UFC, then boxing is a no-brainer, “Boxing pays more in the short term but doesn’t have the promotion power the UFC has,” said Costa.

“UFC pays too little but has high promotional power,” he continued. “You have to try to have both, get what’s best from each side, which is what Ngannou has done. He’s the UFC champion, getting paid a bad purse, and now that he’s at the top he’s doing the right thing, which is to go after the financial part outside the UFC.”
