“Go and earn your title shot,” Calvin Kattar weighs in on being looked past for title fight against Alexander Volkanovski
Calvin Kattar vs Giga Chikadze
Calvin Kattar and his recent fights make a promising case for why he should be considered for the next title shot against featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski.
Calvin Kattar is THE MAN in the featherweight division right now after his performance at UFC Vegas 46. The #5 ranked featherweight fighter made a comeback of his life against the streaking and rising featherweight contender Giga Chikadze. The Boston Finisher dominated Chikadze five rounds in the main event last weekend at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Coming off a devastating loss against former champion Max Holloway, Kattar was written off by many critics. His performance against Giga truly was a statement. In the recent episode of MMA Hour hosted by Ariel Helwani, Kattar talks about the tricky title fight situation in the featherweight division.
“A lot of these guys think they can cut the line with their mouths rather earning it with their fights,” said Calvin talking to Ariel Helwani. “That’s not my style. I rather talk less about it. Go out and prove it. And that’s the only thing that really matters man. Go out and earn your title shots.”

Calvin Kattar believes the champions can “see throught the bulls**t”
Alexander Volkanovski was initially supposed to fight his fierce rival Max Holloway in a trilogy fight but the former champ pulling out paved the way for #4 contender Chan Sung Jung to get his title shot. Calvin is ranked just one spot below the Korean Zombie and has a very similar fight streak to that of the title contender.
Calvin is coming off a lone loss against the original title contender, Max Holloway in the last three years. Meanwhile, the Korean Zombie is coming off a loss against Brian Ortega. Both Calvin and Chan are 3-1 in the last four fights. However, Calvin is confident that champions like Alex and Max want to fight only worthy contenders so he isn’t too worried about it.
“I know guys like Max, like Volkanovski, they want real contenders man. They can see through the bullsh*t more than the casual other people that are chiming in. All I am trying to do is prove that I am the number one contender and get these big opportunities against the Max’s and the Alex’s,” said Calvin in his interview.
