Islam Makhachev has a new opponent in the last few days to his big fight night. The Dagestani will be facing Bobby Green in the main event of UFC Vegas 49 and Makhachev believes it wouldn’t be very difficult to get past this new challenge.
The lightweight division was going to witness a very important decider fight at UFC Vegas 49 between #4 and #5, Islam Makhachev and Beneil Dariush. The two top contenders were booked to go at each other for five rounds or less to secure a spot for the next title shot. But owing to unfortunate injuries, Dariush had to pull out at the last moment.
Bobby Green, the fan-favorite who recently got a lot of praise for his performance at UFC 271 has decided to take this challenging fight on short notice. Islam makes an appearance on the DC&RC show and talks about his upcoming fight. Makhachev believes it is ridiculous to think Green has a chance to match him on the ground.
“I wrestle all my life” Islam Makhachev on comparing his ground game to his opponent’s
Talking to Islam about his opponent, Daniel Cormier builds up Bobby’s wrestling background and mentions that many opponents fail to take that into consideration. Islam couldn’t help but laugh when DC actually thought Bobby’s wrestling can even be compared to that of Islam.
“What many people miss is how good of wrestler Bobby is. He is very good at defending takedowns and has a wrestling background,” said DC before Islam cut him off by asking, “Who said this?” The fighter broke down laughing and reiterated, “He has good boxing and that’s it. Maybe he watched some wrestling match and that’s about it brother.”
“I wrestle brother all my life and you are saying he has some wrestling background. I think I am gonna…I hope I finish him the first round because I know my skills,” said Makhachev.
