“He hasn’t even beat anyone”- Kamaru Usman skeptical about regarding Khamzat Chimaev vs. Gilbert Burns as the No. 1 contender fight

Kamaru Usman vs Khamzat Chimaev

Khamzat Chimaev and Gilbert Burns are all set to take on each other at UFC 273. The pay-per-view event will take place on April 9 inside the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida. The hype for the fight between Chimaev and Burns is humongous, maybe even more than the main event. Most of it is due to the increasing popularity of the Russian.

Chimaev is currently 4-0 in UFC and has dominated every fighter in his last bouts. He got lucky with his shot against Burns who us the #2 fighter in the division. Fight fans are predicting that the winner of this bout will most probably take on Kamaru Usman for the title.

UFC president Dana White has also thought of the possibility of Chimaev fighting for the title. In his recent interview with The Underground, White suggested that it “makes sense” that the fight between Burns and Chimaev is a title eliminator.

During the media day of UFC 272, the welterweight champion did a fan interaction. During the conversation, Usman opened up about his thoughts on Chimaev getting the title shot.

Usman explained that Chimaev has yet to face top 10 fighters. According to Usman, the Russian will first have to go through the number one ranked fighter, Colby Covington, to Challenge for the title. Usman revealed that despite everything he is hungry for competition and will be ready if Chimaev comes to fight him. Here is the video by MMA Junkie.

Well, I mean, this guy hasn’t even fought in the top 10. He hasn’t even beat anyone yet. So, I mean, Covington is still standing in the way. So I think there are still a couple more fights that he has to get through. But, as I say, I love to compete. When that fight presents itself, I’ll be here to compete,” said Usman.

Even though White has said that the winner of the Burns vs Khamzat will face the champ, it’s still uncertain what will happen. Usman will most probably fight Leon Edwards in his next title defense this year. This will automatically refrain Chimaev from fighting Usman soon if he wins at UFC 273.
