Conor McGregor in his prime was a different fighter altogether. He single-handedly brought millions of new sports to the sport and helped the UFC get to massive heights. McGregor was a superstar from the get-go and his ability to sell the fights was unmatched. Trash-talking came naturally to him and his witty replies made him a fan favorite at press conferences.
However, that’s not all that McGregor had as he always backed his trash-talking with incredible performances inside the octagon. During his early years McGregor as a fighter was lethal and also went on to become the first ever UFC double champion. However, has never defended his titles.
McGregor earned his first title shot after beating Chad Mendes at UFC 189. He defeated featherweight legend José Aldo in 2015 and won the title via KO in only 13 seconds. This win soared McGregor to become the most talked about UFC fighter at that time. When fans expected him to stay in the featherweight division and defend his title, the ‘Mystic Mac’ shocked everyone and made his welterweight debut against Nate Diaz.
Then after two years in 2016 at UFC 205, McGregor fought lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez and made it look easy when he defeated the champ via TKO. McGregor had two titles under his belt and was the king of UFC. Everybody wanted to fight him but the Irish yet again made an unpredictable move of fighting Floyd Mayweather in a boxing bout in 2017. This forced UFC to strip the fighter from both titles due to inactivity.

Conor McGregor’s last title fight and consequent fall from grace

After getting stripped from both titles, McGregor couldn’t care less as fighting Floyd Mayweather made him around $100 million. However, the fighter did come back to fight, and this time he participated in what is regarded as the biggest showdown in UFC history, Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Conor McGregor.
This rivalry was personal and outrageous and both fighters wanted to hurt each other inside the octagon. The fight and the aftermath were wild and UFC 229 became the biggest PPV event in the history of the sport. Nurmagomedov, the lightweight champion, defended his belt and submitted McGregor in the fourth round.
It was the last time McGregor came close to a UFC title as after that he only fought thrice out of which he lost twice against Dustin Poirier.
