“I am pretty sure his career is over”- Cody Garbrandt’s former boxing coach says one more loss could very well be the end of his career

Cody Garbrandt

Cody Garbrandt is in a rough spot in his career right now, the former bantamweight champion is 1-5 in his last six fights, and he tried his luck in the flyweight division in his last bout, and he got knocked out by Kai Kara France in the first round of their contest, and it was a career-defining moment for Garbrandt.

The former champion is having a hard time finding his footing in the company, and his former boxing coach and uncle, Robert Meese is very really worried about his future. He talked about his situation in an interview with TalkSports, and he claimed that one more knockout loss for Cody could very well be the end of his career.

He said, “If Cody gets knocked out again, I am pretty sure his career is over”. But Cody can come back, George Foreman hit a bump in his career and came back and he had more fun and made more money and won the heavyweight title. So, Cody can come back, but he needs to learn fight defense, let your defense set up your offence. He’s been stopped four times, but then look at the Rob Font fight he went all rounds with Rob. In terms of weight cutting, has he done damage to his body?”

“Cody was missing shot combinations on the mitts“- Robert Messe talks about Cody Garbrandt’s devastating loss against TJ Dillashaw

Messe took into consideration Cody’s performance against his arch-nemesis TJ Dillashaw, Garbrandt got knocked out by TJ, and he lost his belt to him. Messe claims Cody was not completely prepared for that fight, and that KO loss completely changed him as a fighter. “Going into the TJ fights we were concerned, because there was a change in Cody,” Meese said. “When Mike Tyson was knocking everybody out and then he lost he didn’t have that same fire, it happens to fighters.”

“Cody was missing shot combinations on the mitts in camp. I told him if he’s missing the mitts he will miss in the fight. We all knew Cody wasn’t at his best going into that fight, me, Urijah Faber, Chris Holdsworth we all knew,” Messe concluded. We can’t predict Garbrandt’s future, but we do hope he finds his way back, and get back to the top of the mountain once again.
