“I fight the best guys” Colby Covington reveals what Khamzat Chimaev has to do to get his attention
Colby Covington talks about Khamzat Chimaev
Khamzat Chimaev might be one of the best talents in the UFC right now but that is not enough to get the validation of Colby Covington. “Chaos” believes that the two fighters are not even in the same bracket.
Colby Covington recently made an appearance on Submission Radio and spoke about his competition. While speaking about all the potential completion in the division, Colby does not look at the rising superstar Khamzat Chimaev as a real problem as of now. The welterweight contender believes Chimaev has to beat more top fighters to even think of fighting against someone at the level of Covington.
“I mean he has got to beat a couple of contenders man,” said Colby talking to Submission Radio. “Look at my resume. I am beating champion after champion. The guys when I fought them, number 2 in the world, number 3 in the world, number 5 in the world…when I fought guys they were the best in the world.” Covington was a former interim welterweight champion and has also fought for the undisputed belt twice in his career.
“He’s going to get hurt” Colby Covington says it is not a good idea to rush Khamzat Chimaev to the top ranks
Khamzat Chimaev has been absolutely steamrolling his opponents in the UFC. The fighter is undefeated in his career and has four fights in the UFC so far. “Borz” is now scheduled to fight a recent title contender, Gilbert Burns ar UFC 273 which will be the biggest fight of his career. A win against Burns could potentially lead to the title shot.
But Colby believes it won’t be a good idea for Chimaev to rush into the top-ranked fighters. “My resume I put together speaks volumes. The kid needs to win some credible contender fights man. The guy has had three or four fights and you guys want to rush them into the top of the division before he is ready for that,” said Colby.
“I mean you are gonna get these guys hurt, man. They get this bottle of lightning hype on them and you send them into the big fights and they are gonna be a fish out of the water. He has to win some high-level fights and we will talk. I fight the best in the world.”
