“I may just enjoy retirement”- Jon Jones gets cold footed after Francis Ngannou’s scary performance at UFC 270

Jon Jones was keeping up with the heavyweight championship fight at UFC 270. Jones after the fight has quite the thoughts to share on his future in the division and the performances of the two heavyweights involved in the main event. Ngannou won the fight by unanimous decision (49-46, 48-47 x2) on the judges’ scorecard.

Jones is out of the action for around two years now and has hinted at a move to the heavyweight division. Jones never announced his retirement but on Saturday just after the main event he tweeted, “Lol Shit I may just enjoy retirement“.

Jones didn’t look keen to get back into the octagon and call out Francis Ngannou. Ngannou surprised everybody with his wrestling heavy gameplan. He looked down two rounds after not engaging much in the fight for the first two rounds. Even in the third he looked gassed and out of the fight. The knockout never seemed to arrive but Ngannou had other plans in mind. He took down Gane who is 247 pounds and swung him like a pillow. Ngannou had the top control in most of the fight after that round. This is the first win of Ngannou’s career via decision.

Jones is primarily a wrestler and has taken down all the best guys he fought in the UFC, including the Olympian in Danial Cormier. Jones’s path to victory against Ngannou seemed more on the ground than on the feet but after a performance like that Jones would think twice before coming back to the octagon against the Predator.

Jones reacted on Twitter about the performance of Ciryl Gane and said that people tend to get onto the hype train of new fighters very easily and Ciryl Gane was just a hype in the HW division.

Gane was thought to be one of the best technical fighters in the HW division. His movements are something we have not seen in the HW division earlier. He is very athletic and fast for his size. Gane was thought of as a better fighter than Ngannou and it looked like Ngannou’s only way to win the fight is via knockout but Ngannou surprised everybody including Gane with his ability to take the fight to the ground even when he was looking visibly tired.

Gane was supposed to be a great test for Jones at the HW division but now that Gane’s has lost to Ngannou and that too in wrestling exchanges, Jones criticized his performance and people that were calling him the new era of HW.

Gane looked to be in control of the fight on the feet and in the fifth round, he took down Ngannou but he went for a heel hook which gave Ngannou the top position Ngannou capitalized on Gane’s mistake and took the fight and retained his championship.
