“I was going to fight Jan at 205″- Kamaru Usman dared to achieve the impossible by skipping two weight classes

Kamaru Usman vs Jan Blachowicz

Two of the most dominant champions inside the UFC are the welterweight champion Kamaru Usman and the middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. Adesanya cleared out his division and moved up to light heavyweight to challenge the former champion, Jan Blachowicz for the title.

Adesanya fought Blachowicz for over 5 rounds, but he came up short against him and received the first L of his professional MMA career. Kamaru Usman has been asked many times to challenge Izzy for the title, and become the double champ. He shared a unique bond with Izzy, and he considers him as his brother, he clearly stated that he would never face Adesanya inside the octagon, because he would rather have two African champions in the UFC, than one guy holding two belts.

Now in a recent interview with GQ, he revealed that he actually thought about moving up two weight classes to challenge the former champ, Jan Blachowicz, he said, “I was going to skip Israel and go fight Jan at 205. Because I’m pound-for-pound, I want to prove it. No matter what weight it is, I thought he was a really good matchup for me. I think I would beat him.”

Adesanya is set to defend his middleweight belt against the former champion, Robert Whittaker in a title rematch. If Whittaker manages to actually beat Adesanya in the rematch, Usman would not hesitate to challenge him for the belt. His manager Ali Abdelaziz believes he can take on any middleweight on the planet.

Abdelaziz was quoted as saying: “At the end of the day, if Whittaker wins, Kamaru can go up and fight Whittaker too. He’ll whoop Whittaker. I believe Kamaru can go up to middleweight and become a champ, today. I believe, stylistically he is a nightmare for a lot of these guys.
