UFC president Dana White

The UFC might be one of the most recognized promotions in the world, but there are places that are yet to feel its presence. During a pre-fight interview ahead of UFC 254, president Dana White was asked about the places that the promotion is interesting in visiting once the pandemic situation is under control. He stated that the UFC was looking to expand within the Asian subcontinent, specifically India and parts of China. He mentioned certain parts of Africa.

Asian expansion for UFC, claims Dana White

Dana White stated that the promotion was looking to open up base in India and China

The reason for the promotions’ sudden interest, as stated by the president was simple. India and China, with their massive populations, are easily two of the biggest markets in the world and given that the popularity of MMA is growing rapidly in both countries, the promotion wants to take over the Asian market as well, which is currently dominated by ONE Championship.

“Let me think. Obviously, you start looking at places with massive populations like India and there are still places in China that we haven’t held an event yet. And we have a Chinese world champion” White stated, while referring to the UFC Strawweight champion Weili Zhang. He further added, “We have a champ from Australia, we have a champ from Russia, China, Kamaru Usman is from Africa. So we have a lot of interesting places where we can put fights on.”

The company is currently holding zero audience, closed-doors events in light of the global pandemic. It will surely be worth the wait to see it coming knocking on the doors of the Asian countries like ours.
