“You have division full of young sharks”- Islam Makhachev advises Alexander Volkanovski to keep on fighting the featherweight contenders

After Islam Makhachev’s impressive win over Bobby Green, he solidified himself as the rightful contender to be next in line for a shot at the title. In the post-fight interview, Islam Makhachev entrenched that Khabib Nurmagomedov spoke to the president of the organization, Dana White where he confirmed that Islam’s next fight would be a title fight against the winner of the Oliveira vs Gaethje fight.
Alexander Volkanovski is running through the entire featherweight division. His next few potential opponents are the ones he has already defeated in the past. He recently defeated Korean Zombie, at UFC 273. Post that he discussed his future endeavors. The featherweight champion wishes to move up to lightweight and challenge the Lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira, to attain champ-champ status.
“I want to be active. I’ll move up, I’ll work my options, because I’m not holding anyone up and I’m doing my part. So, if people don’t want to do their part, let’s have fun, let’s have these money fights, let’s have these double-champ status,” Alex said.

Hearing upon this, Islam Makhachev took to Twitter where he vehemently cautioned the featherweight champion that he is the rightful deserver of the lightweight title shot and marked his territory by clearly stating that he deserves the next title shot.
In the tweet, he explicitly mentioned, “Hold your horses cowboy, you have division full of young sharks, more than enough to stay busy. LW title fight is mine.”
It is clear to infer that Islam Makhachev is not a fan of the idea of Volkanovski getting a title shot at lightweight. Instead, he suggests that the Champion has enough contenders in their prime who he should indulge rather than planning on moving up. It is unclear who is next in line for the lightweight shot next as no fight is booked for the same yet. However, it is clear that if Volkanovski gets a shot at the title, Islam Makhachev would not be very pleased with that.
