Ciryl Gane talks about Francis Ngannou's backstage snub

Francis Ngannou might not be the good guy after all. The Predator’s former teammate Ciryl Gane talks about the infamous backstage snub of Francis at UFC 268.

UFC 268 was one of the biggest events of 2021 for the MMA promotion. If the action inside the octagon was not good enough, the promotion managed to get footage of an interesting beef backstage. Francis Ngannou, the heavyweight champion attended the pay-per-view event to root for his dear friend Kamaru Usman. While his old teammates were also at the same event representing Nassourdine Imavov.

We all know the beef between Francis and his old coach, Fernand Lopez. When the predator saw his coach, his future opponent, Ciryl Gane, and his old teammates, Ngannou did not hesitate one bit to absolutely ghost them and act like they weren’t even there. The coach Lopez has already said his thoughts on the event but Gane in the latest episode of MMA Hour addressed the issue.

“This is wrong. For me it was wrong. That’s it,” said Gane talking to Ariel Helwani in his latest interview. Gane and Ngannou are scheduled to headline the first pay-per-view event of the year 2022 at UFC 270. The two will face each other inside the octagon in a heavyweight title unifier bout. Given the circumstances, Gane felt disrespected.

At UFC 268, middleweight fighter Nassourdine Imavov lit up the mecca of combat sports, The Madison Square Garden with his KO win against Edmen Shahbazyan. Ciryl was more than upset that Ngannou would not even congratulate his former teammate for such a win. “It was a little bit of shame because you have your future opponent, your former sparring partner, Nassourdine Imavov,” said Gane.

“Nassourdine did a lot of sparring for Ngannou, maybe the biggest sparring he had in his career. So that’s why we were a little bit ashamed. He just won his fight in Madison Square Garden. That’s why it was a little bit of shame, that’s why it was a little bit wrong for me.”

Gane, however, is not letting this get to his head leading up to the biggest fight of his career. He is coming off a win against Derrick Lewis in Houston to become the interim heavyweight champion. The fighter has only 10 professional fights in his career and is already fighting to become the heavyweight champion of the world.
