“It was pretty clear”- Dan Hooker reveals whether Robert Whittaker did enough to win the fight against Israel Adesanya
Dan Hooker- Robert Whittaker vs Israel Adesanya UFC 271
UFC featherweight Dan Hooker, who’s also from City Kickboxing saw happiness in the victory of his teammate Israel Adesanya when the latter defeated preceding middleweight champion Robert Whittaker in his fourth title defence. City Kickboxing is the home of many feared fighters of MMA such as Hooker himself, Adesanya, UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski, UFC Featherweight Blood Diamond and UFC light-heavyweight Carlos Ulberg.
After coming down from lightweight, Hooker is going to make his featherweight debut in March 2022 against promising prospect Arnold Allen in Fight Night London in the O2 Arena. The card is headlined by a very exciting heavyweight clash between Alexander Volkov and Tom Aspinall. With a record of 21-11 and 17 wins via finishes, Hooker is one of the most entertaining fighters on the UFC roster with knockout wins over the likes of Gilbert Burns, Jim Miller, James Vick and many more.
Dan Hooker believes that Whittaker looked incredible in UFC 271 as compared to the first fight
Hooker gave an interview to Submission Radio to talk about his reaction to Whittaker’s and many fans’ thoughts over Whittaker winning the better half of the fight to secure the victory, which he officially couldn’t. Hooker gave an assessment of the psyche of fans watching the fight.
“If that [the first fight between Adesanya and Whittaker] is a measuring stick for the second fight, well then Rob [Whittaker] did incredible you know,” says Hooker “Rob did a hundred times better than he did the first fight so then he gets some success [and] people are like ”well he’s getting the success he must be running away with it or he must be winning’ like he’s doing way better than he did the last time though but um, all over when once you score the fight, it was pretty clear that Israel had controlled three rounds…” said Hooker.
What do you make of Hooker’s assessment of the second fight between Adesanya and Whittaker? Do you think some fans were just moved by Whittaker’s improvement to declare him the unofficial winner of the second fight? Or was it genuinely a fight in favour of Whittaker regardless of the improvement? What do you think is next for both Adesanya and Whittaker respectively?
