Having signed a 4-fight deal with the UFC in Dec. 2018, ‘Bigi Boy’ made his debut the next year. “Bigi Boy” is no stranger to headlining acts. According to the fighter’s account (jairzinhorozenstruik.com) and his UFC Athlete listing page, Jairzinho Rozenstruik is a Surinamese combatant. Concurrently, Suriname, officially the Republic of Suriname, is on South America’s northeastern Atlantic coast. It is the smallest sovereign state in South America, with a population of approximately 575,000 and an area smaller than the state of Wisconsin, USA.

At the young age of 17, Surinam-born Rozenstruik began his martial arts journey. At a community center known as the Rens Project, later – “The Gym,” he began taking kickboxing lessons. There, he caught the attention of top coach Michael Babb of VOS Gym Amsterdam, who trained him at House of Legends with Ivan Hipolite.

In a short few months, the kickboxing and Muay Thai practitioner ventured into the world of combat, making his pro-MMA debut in 2012. Consequently, MMA isn’t big in Suriname yet.
