Jiri Prochazka is the UFC’s biggest star from the European Union out of all the fighters on the roster. His peculiar fighting style has won many fans for himself and the promotion. His hairdo and his beliefs have been very noticeable. Prochazka adheres to a warrior code and it has a big influence on the fighter.
The journey to the top resulted from the motivation to learn new ways and train differently. Jiri Prochazka’s meteoric rise had very unfortunate beginnings. He would not be what he is today if not for Martial Arts. His father died when he was six years old, and hence, he did not have anyone to guide him.
He partook in organized street fights and came to know about MMA through a friend just before High School. Prochazka actively pursued MMA after he saw the popular MMA street fight movie Never Back Down. However, it is the code he believes that made him the fighter he is.
What is the Bushido Code?
The Bushido Code is a philosophical framework that shaped the Samurai way of life. The Samurai class has vanished. However, the legacy of Bushido endured. The principles of Bushido are Rectitude (Gi), Courage (Yuki), Benevolence (Jin), Respect (Rei), Honor (Meiyo), Loyalty (Chugi), Sincerity (Makoto), Duty and Self-Sacrifice (Chuko), Self-Control (Jisei), and Fidelity (Chujitsu).
Bushido is not just a relic of the past. Its echoes are even felt in modern Japanese conduct, from corporations to Martial Arts. The code’s focus on integrity, courage, and loyalty continues to be a part of societal ethics. The ideals of Bushido are a testament to the Samurai’s lasting influence on Japanese culture and beyond.
The Code has and still is inspiring individuals to lead lives with discipline, respect, and moral rectitude. Interestingly, the code is followed even outside Japan as evidenced by it being followed by professional fighters.
Does Jiri Prochazka adheres to the Bushido Code?
Jiri Prochazka is not just celebrated for his MMA prowess, but also for his staunch dedication to the Bushido Code. He holds a deep respect for Miyamoto Musashi, the author of The Book of Five Rings.
The book has greatly influenced the career of Prochazka. For Prochazka, the Bushido Code guides his conduct and craft. This is evidenced by his three-fight streak in the UFC against Volkan Oezdemir, Dominick Reyes, and Glover Teixeira before 2023.
Prochazka considers the teachings of Musashi crucial for molding his view on life and fighting. Prochazka’s training, sportsmanship, and respect for rivals reflect his commitment to the Bushido Code. He approaches each bout like the Samurai’s quest for swordsmanship mastery.
The Czech Samurai’s life outside the octagon also resonates with the values of Bushido and Musashi’s teachings. He upholds integrity and humility. Moreover, his lifestyle echoes the honorable existence of the now-extinct Samurai.
