Commentator and podcast host Joe Rogan is arguably one of the most popular personalities in the world of combat sports. He is a practitioner himself, earning black belts in Taekwondo and BJJ. He dabbled in kickboxing but retired due to constant headaches and fear of sustaining more injuries. Rogan has followed different diet plans to train like his younger self. He once followed the carnivore diet to improve the physical condition of his body.

While Rogan does have a martial arts background, he does not fully train like a professional fighter. The stand-up comedian believed in mixing it all up. His workout regimen includes lifting weights, yoga, and some cardio with his MMA training. Along with his training, Rogan fuels his body with clean food and maintains optimum nutrition. To achieve this, Rogan has tried many different diets. Through the ‘The Joe Rogan Experience,’ he interviewed the top nutritionists who gave him insight into the best diet plans.

The different diet plans of Joe Rogan

Joe Rogan likes to experiment with his diet to ensure progress. Over the years, the podcast host has made observations through trial and error methods with different diet plans. Among his diet plans, Rogan tried intermittent fasting for a while. The plan ideally includes fasting for over 12 hours and eating through the remaining time frame. An optimal intermittent fasting schedule would be 16 hours of fasting and 8 hours eating window.

Rogan also tried the ketogenic diet for a long time. The ketogenic diet is a carb-restrictive diet where a person consumes only fat and protein. The diet aims to put the body in a fat-burning state through the elimination of carbohydrates. Rogan tried the carnivore diet after the keto diet plan. Joe Rogan does not actively follow this diet but has reportedly gained many benefits in a short time.

What is a carnivore diet and what benefits did it provide Joe Rogan ?

A carnivore diet is a restrictive diet that includes animal products such as meat, fish, eggs, dairy products, and bone broth. Everything else, like sugar, vegetables, legumes, and fruits, is excluded from the diet. While on the carnivore diet, Rogan ate wild game meats like elk and normal meat sources.

Rogan started his carnivore diet challenge in October 2020 and adopted it for a month. He lost 12 pounds and witnessed many improvements. After following the carnivore diet, he had abundant energy, recovery, and vitiligo. The diet remains unsustainable despite many benefits.

Rogan had to supplement with additional amino acids, fish oil, and multivitamins to avoid deficiency and sustain the diet. Apart from Joe Rogan, Canadian Psychologist Jordan Peterson follows the carnivore diet due to his health deficiencies.

Rogan does not actively follow it despite the physical benefits attained through the diet. Rogan eats a good amount of veggies and fruits, includes spices, and consumes very low carbs in addition to meat, fish, and eggs. Besides his usual diet, he takes many supplements to cover everything and avoid any deficiency.
