Joe Rogan is one of the most influential people associated with MMA. The comedian made a big mark on the UFC commentary booth and is now one of the best podcasters in the world. The controversial comedian has had his fair share of controversy. However, nothing piques his interest more than combat sports. Rogan competed in Taekwondo before he entered the comedy scene.

Mark Boal came on as the guest in episode 1911 of his highly acclaimed JRE podcast. Boal is an Academy Award winner. He wrote and produced iconic films like The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty. During the episode, Rogan described what he felt about MMA. This is what Rogan said to Boal:

This is the wildest game a person can play. It's combat sports. Combat sports what all sports aspire to.

Rogan then said that MMA was superior to basketball and American football. He concluded his statement by saying this:

This is 2 people that are champions, the elite of the elite and they chose to meet. They prepare for each other. It's to me, it's the most exciting thing in the world.

Rogan, being an avid combat sports enthusiast, is also skilled at Jiu-Jitsu in addition to Taekwondo. Interestingly, even Georges St. Pierre said Rogan has one of the best spinning backkicks. Rogan is a staple in the UFC’s domestic PPV along with Daniel Cormier and play-by-play ace Jon Anik. Rogan has not appeared on the commentary booth since UFC 292. He does not attend the PPV when UFC goes abroad.

The two recent PPVs were in Australia and UAE, and hence his position was taken by Laura Sanko and Paul Felder, respectively. Another interesting fact is that Rogan’s contract states that he would only commentate in the UFC if Dana White was the man running the promotion.

Joe Rogan replies to people calling MMA violent and horrible

Joe Rogan on his podcast episode with Mark Boal, spoke highly of MMA. Rogan was distraught with people with no combat sports knowledge calling MMA violent and horrible. He provided an apt reply to those who think like that.

Interestingly, Mark Boal was of the opinion that MMA was a sport and Football and Basketball were games. Nevertheless, this is the definition that Rogan provided in the podcast episode.

It's high-level problem-solving with dire physical consequences and it's the cr*ziest game you can play.

MMA is the fastest-growing sport in the world, and the UFC is the premier MMA promotion in the world. Moreover, Dana White spearheaded the UFC as the first sport to resume action during Covid-19. Conor McGregor‘s ascension to double champion already popularized the promotion globally, and it soared even more after his notorious clash with Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229.
