Jon Jones’ domestic violence charges dropped, sentenced to anger management counselling
Jon Jones
Jon Jones agreed to a plea deal with his prosecutors which led to his domestic violence charges being dropped earlier this week TMZ Sports has confirmed.
The former light heavyweight champion was arrested on 24th September, Friday morning after being charged with misdemeanor domestic battery violence and injuring or tampering with a vehicle in Las Vegas and the arrest took place just hours after his 2013 fight with Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165 was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Jon Jones has now been instructed to stay out of trouble, pay restitution to his partner, and take anger management counseling.
The report stated that the cops were called at around 5 in the morning on a call of ‘domestic disturbance’. He was being questioned by the police when he snapped and smashed his head into the hood of the patrol car causing damage to it. They even met with his fiancée who was a bit bloodstained and said that he “touched the back of my head and pulled my hair a little bit but he did not hit me or anything.”
He was eventually arrested and reportedly said that he was stepping away from alcohol.
Jon Jones provides a possible date for his heavyweight debut
It’s been close to two years since we last saw Jones in the octagon and precisely due to his arrests and the charges placed against him, he decided to step down and vacate his position as UFC light heavyweight champion and instead join the heavyweight division.
When asked about it he replied, “I didn’t want to be one of those athletes to slow down the division. I feel like I’ve held onto the light heavyweight championship for so long – I’ve ruined so many people’s dreams of being the light heavyweight champion – and now it’s time for someone else to have it.”
In an interview with Albuquerque, New Mexico TV station KRQE he said that “I’m looking to fight somewhere in April, possibly Madison Square Garden, or a total opposite date, possibly July at International Fight Week.”
Are we going to see a better and much improved Jon Jones when he does return to the UFC? We shall find out soon enough.
