“He’s a great champion”- Jon Jones reacts to Stipe Miocic requesting for more time to prepare, reveals potential date for the clash

Jon Jones & Stipe Miocic

Jon Jones has been out of action for a long two years now. The last time the fighter was inside the octagon it was against Dominick Reyes at UFC which Jones won via unanimous decision. In the fight he successfully defended his Light heavyweight championship but later vacated it.

After that it was discovered that Jones is looking forward to make his heavyweight debut against champion, Francis Ngannou this year. But unfortunately, Ngannou suffered a knee injury in January which forced him to be out if action for a whole year.

Then Jones shifted his focus on former heavyweight champion, Stipe Miocic. The fight has been on the UFC table for a long time.

Jones was recently at the CES MMA podcast where the former Light heavyweight champion revealed what happened in the negotiations of the Jones vs Miocic fight.

Jones explained that originally the fight was supposed to take place on July 2 and Miocic was ready for it. But lately he was doing a lot of weight training and was avoiding specific MMA training. And later, Miocic asked to take some more time so that he can come into the fight in his best shape. Jones revealed that he respects Miocic because he is a great UFC champion and deserves to get the time he needed. Jones suggested that he thinks the fight will take place on September 24, 2022 and will most probably be in Las Vegas.

I heard originally it would be July 2. I think when Stipe got that date. He decided that – I heard he’s been doing a lot of weightlifting, not a lot of MMA training. He wanted to put his best foot forward. I respect that. He’s a great champion. He deserves that. I think he asked for September 24 and I’m hoping that’s going to be in Las Vegas,” said Jones.

The fans have been waiting for this for a extremely long time now and it’s no harm in waiting little more. It would finally be the moment when two arguable UFC GOATs will face each other.
