Watch: Jorge Masvidal turns political aide to Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis

UFC welterweight title contender, BMF champion Jorge Masvidal was recently invited as a guest speaker for Florida governor Ron DeSantis’ private fundraiser ahead of the re-election.

Jorge Masvidal is not on the best of his behavior in recent times as the fighter has a case of battery against him following his brawl with fierce rival Colby Covington. Despite the black mark on his reputation, Florida governor Ron DeSantis believes it is worth forgiving and invites the fighter as a guest speaker for a private fundraiser held at The Wharf in Miami. Both of them had a lot of praise for the other.

Masvidal came to the event with his BMF belt and also presented it to the governor. Jorge believed DeSantis deserved the BMF belt for keeping Florida “Free” amidst the pandemic. DeSantis was also seen saying, “Aren’t you glad to live in the free-est state in all of United States?” to the crowd rooting for him alongside Masvidal on the stage.

This is not the first time Masvidal has aided his hand in politics. In 2020, Donald Trump also bought out Jorge to help him with the elections. Senator Manny Diaz also called the UFC fighter a “Fighter for Freedom”, defending his assault on Colby Covington.

“This guy [Gover DeSantis] fights for you, fights for me, fights for my kids, fights for my freedom,” said Masvidal in his speech as a guest. “We gotta show out this election stronger than ever. We gotta come harder than ever. We are doing things right here. We are on the way to something greater.”

Masvidal is coming off a loss against Colby Covington at UFC 272. Things got ugly for Jorge post-fight as he ambushed Covington at a steak restaurant in Miami, Florida, and also broke Colby’s tooth with his attack. Masvidal is out on bail for his battery charges. Covington pressed charges on his former friend from American Top Team for his assault.
