Julianna Pena offers her take on Ronda Rousey! Rousey is probably the first female MMA artist to earn recognition on a global basis. Dana White was reluctant to sign female fighters for the UFC, but watching Ronda compete changed his mind. She became the first women’s bantamweight champion in the history of the UFC.
After going on an absolute tear, and stringing together a 10 fight win streak, she ran into Holly Holm who knocked her out in the second round of her contest. She took a year off and came back to take on Amanda Nunes. Her return didn’t go exactly as planned, and Nunes stopped her in her track in the very first round of their contest.

Ronda didn’t handle these losses too well, and she retired from the sport of MMA. Ronda made her pro wrestling debut after a few years, and newly crowned bantamweight champion, Julianna Pena had some harsh things to say about Ronda in her recent interview with The MMA Hour, she said, “Ronda is so old news, right? I think that what’s incredible about her is that she opened up the door and was destroying people in 10 seconds, and became a star because she was demolishing people in the first round, and that’s great, but she got knocked out twice and never came back. So how legit is she?”

Penna’s rise to the top has been full of highs and lows, she challenged one of the best female athletes on the planet, and submitted her to create history. She believes Ronda took the easy way out, and the fact that she never returned to test herself makes her a joke.
“That’s what I’m saying, she’s kind of a joke in the MMA world now, because she’s a… what is the word? Sellout!” Pena said of Rousey. “Like, a little bit of a sellout there. I mean, I guess I understand, right? It’s like, pro wrestling is fake, you get paid millions of dollars, I get it. But for me, for real s***, for like the ‘you’re the real, real deal,’ I would say that that’s in the UFC. And if she ever wants any of that real smoke, I’m ready.”
