Katlyn Chookagian is a former title challenger in the women’s flyweight division. Nicknamed “The Blonde Fighter,” Chookagian changed her surname to Cerminara after marrying her husband, Kyle Cerminara. Chookagian has not fought since UFC 280 in 2022, where Manon Fiorot snapped her four-fight win steak.

Chookagian is one of the veterans of the women’s flyweight division. She has the most wins in the division, a record she shares with Valentina Shevchenko. Moreover, she also has the most fights in the division and the longest fight time.

Who is Katlyn Chookagian’s husband?

Kyle Cerminara is the husband of Katlyn Chookagian. He was born in Lewiston, New York. The couple decided to tie the knot on September 7, 2019. Even though he is a real estate investor, he is an accomplished combat sports athlete, evidenced by his credentials.

Like his wife, Cerminara was a mixed martial artist. He is undefeated in three professional fights. He has since become a coach. Cerminara was an NCAA Division I All-American. Moreover, he was a runner-up at the US Open and the Pan American Games. Cerminara attended college at the University of Buffalo, where he was a two-time Male Athlete of the Year winner and a New York State champion.

Cerminra is now an assistant coach at the University of Pennsylvania. Moreover, he is also the head wrestling coach at Long Island MMA. As such, he is the wrestling coach for PFL featherweight Chris Wade and UFC bantamweight Brian Kelleher. In addition to his wrestling credentials, he is also very good at Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. As she lost the fight, her chances of getting another title dwindled, and thus, she decided to have children. Unfortunately for Chookagian, she could not conceive a baby. She had to deal with infertility and, as such, did IVF treatment. Chookagian spoke about it on the media day for UFC 299.

She underwent three or four rounds of IVF treatment, and she did conceive twice. However, she suffered two miscarriages and underwent mental and physical problems related to it. As such, she did not compete in 2023.

What is the background of Katlyn Chookagian?

Unlike her husband, Katlyn Chookagian began her martial arts training in Karate at age 4. She began her amateur MMA career in 2012 and her professional MMA career in 2014. Chookagian is also a Black Belt in BJJ under Jason Rau.

She is part of the Renzo Gracie Combat Team in New York. Throughout her career, she has trained with accomplished names like Frankie Edgar, Gordon Ryan, Claudia Gadelha, and Sijara Eubanks. Chookagian is a graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University with a degree in Business Management and Marketing.

Born in Quakertown, Pennsylvania, Chookagian is of Armenian descent. She completed her high school education at Quakertown Community School District and did odd jobs like pizza serving and bartending before she fully concentrated on MMA.
