“I think I won but whatever”- Kelvin Gastelum reacts to his unanimous decision loss to Jared Cannonier
Jared Cannonier vs Kelvin Gastelum
Kelvin Gastelum took on Jared Cannonier in the main event of UFC Vegas 34. The five-round fight went the full distance and saw Jared Cannonier emerge victorious via. unanimous decision scoring 48-47 on all three judges’ scorecard. It was a much-needed win for ‘The Killa Gorilla’ as he was able to get back on track following his defeat to Robert Whittaker at UFC 254. Cannonier also consolidated his position as the number 3 ranked middleweight with that win.
Kelvin Gastelum, on the other hand felt that he should have won the fight. One round in favour of Gastelum would have got him the win. Taking to Twitter, Gastelum stated that he would be back soon with small adjustments, and believed that he will reach the top soon.
“Almost there and on to the next one” – Kelvin Gastelum
Gastelum wrote, “I think I won but whatever…”
Gastelum also congratulated Jared Cannonier on his victory, while claiming that he will be back soon. His tweet read, “Congratulations to Jared Cannonier on a very competitive fight! Small adjustments and we’re back on top! Tonight just proved that! We’re very close to being the best in the world. Almost there & On to the next one!“
Gastelum is currently stuck in a rough patch. He just has one win in his last 6 fights. Just when he seemed that he was back on track after a victory over Ian Heinisch at UFC 258, earlier this year, he suffered a unanimous decision loss to Robert Whittaker. The last time Gastelum won two fights in a row was in late 2017 and 2018. The only good thing about Gastelum’s losses is the fact that he never gets TKOed – most of his losses are via. decision.
