UFC Middleweight Kelvin Gastelum has to make some last-minute adjustments as his opponent and upcoming prospect Nassourdine Imavov has been halted in process of entering UFC 273 fight week. Gastelum, a former interim-middleweight title challenger and possibly the hardest fight of current UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya in the past, is 1-5 in his last 6 fights and is definitely in need of a winning streak in order to prevent getting farther away from title conversation.

Gastelum is now going to fight another upcoming prospect, Dricus Du Plessis. Du Plessis, an upcoming fighter from South Africa who was supposed to fight Anthony Hernandez at UFC 273, is now going to most likely take Imavov’s position to fight Gastelum while other arrangements will be made for Hernandez.

Kelvin had no issues with this change, and in an interview with The Underground, he explained his reason for the same, he said, “At this point, it doesn’t matter. I’m so well prepared, it didn’t matter who steps in there. I just want to be able to fight April 9. It’s what’s been on my mind for freaking 12 weeks now so that’s what I had in my mind, that’s what I’m keeping in my mind, and that’s what I’m going to get.”

Kelvin made a lot of changes in his career, and he’s been training with the former double champ, Henry Cejudo. He’s confident in his abilities to take on anyone in the division, and it feels like he’s getting a fresh start. “It feels like a restart in my career,” Gastelum said. “I’m making a lot of changes. I moved out here in Arizona. We’re doing things differently out here, as you can see. ‘Triple C’ is bringing in all these people wanting to work with him, and it’s for a reason.”

There’s a system that they’ve created and we’re following, and it’s pretty awesome results that we’ve had during this camp and I’m excited. It feels like a restart in my career. It feels like a restart for me. I feel like I’m in a great place mentally, physically. It just feels like a whole new start for me.”
