Charles Oliveira just defeated Dustin Poirier at the main event of UFC 269. Most people expected Dustin to win this fight, and he came out blazing in the first round of their contest. Dustin had him hurt on a number of occasions, but the champ came back strong in round number 2 before finally submitting Dustin in the third round.
Former lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov picked Dustin to win this fight, but Charles proved him wrong along with everyone else, and Khabib was impressed by his performance. He congratulated him on his victory, and wrote, “My congratulations Champ, you deserve this.”
Khabib sees himself as a real threat to Islam Makhachev’s title contention and talking about him in his recent interview with ESPN, he said, “Right now is Charles Oliveira time. He impressed me, and I really believe he is one of the best fighters in the world right now and best lightweight in the world. It’s going to be very interesting fight if next fight Islam wins and Charles wins, and they’re going to fight end of the next year. It’s going to be a great fight.“

Islam is a rising prospect in the lightweight division, the Dagestani is booked to face Beneil Dariush next, and that could be the toughest fight of his career, a win over Beneil could provide him with a valid shot at the lightweight title, and he is putting in the work to make it happen.
Oliveira is set to defend his title against Justin Gaethje next. “The Highlight” was also impressed by Oliveira’s performance and he can’t wait to get his hands on him. Talking about the potential match between Islam and Oliveira, Khabib said, “It’s going to be a little bit like Tony Ferguson vs. Khabib, you know – Islam vs. Charles Oliveira. They both win. Right now…(Charles) has 10 win streak. If Islam wins next fight, Islam is going to have 10-win streak. And 11-win streak, Charles Oliveira – it’s going to be great, great fight for both of them and for UFC for sure. I really they both win and they fight end of the next year.”
