Khabib Nurmagomedov was arguably the best lightweight in MMA history. He retired as a champion with an illustrious MMA record of 29 wins and no losses. Once upon a time, his teammate Cain Velasquez challenged him to eat one of his spicy peppers. The video of the interaction resurfaced on the internet recently.

In the video, Cain Velasquez challenged Khabib Nurmagomedov to eat the spiciest pepper. ‘The Eagle’ backed off even after being insisted on by Velasquez multiple times. He stated that he avoids even the lightest spicy foods. It was hilarious to see Nurmagomedov’s reaction to the challenge. He also looked to his coach, Javier Mendez, for approval. He also shook his head, conveying not to try the pepper. Here is what ‘The Eagle’ said when challenged to eat the pepper:

Brother, I cannot eat this. This guy, he brought this pepper said if you're real gangster you need to try this. Somebody have to kill me before I eat this. I cannot! I don't like little bit spicy food.

Khabib Nurmagomedov and Cain Velasquez trained at the same gym, American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose. They had known each other for a long time and held each other in high regard. As such, this video was wholesome to watch, especially since ‘The Eagle’ refused the challenge amusingly.

Cain Velasquez went through a lot of struggles recently in his life. But Khabib Nurmagomedov always stood by him and supported him even when he went to jail. Now, both of them are retired from MMA and lead a normal happy life.

Cain Velasquez went to prison and did not have the option to come out on bail in the initial months. The incident happened in February 2022 when Velasquez chased the guy who sexually assaulted his 4-year-old son. He faced jail time for multiple charges. However, his longtime friend Khabib Nurmagomedov stood in support of Velasquez. Later, he was released on bail and met ‘The Eagle’ at their old gym.

Cain Velasquez and Khabib Nurmagomedov found a home at the American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose. As such, months after his release, Velasquez and Nurmagomedov trained together at AKA in May 2023. They were seen alongside their coach, Javier Mendez, and manager Ali Abdelaziz.

AKA was one of the top gyms in MMA, being the home to prestigious fighters like Daniel Cormier and Luke Rockhold, who were former UFC champions. Current lightweight champion Islam Makhachev also trained out of AKA. As such, the gym members shared a unique bond, and Cain Velasquez and Khabib Nurmagomedov were no different.
