UFC 300 had exciting fights from top to bottom, to the fans’ delight. Moreover, Dana White‘s announcement of Conor McGregor‘s return against Michael Chandler further excited the fight fans. After the announcement, Michael Bisping, Anthony Smith, and Chael Sonnen sat with ESPN’s Brendan Fitzgerald to preview the fight.

Fight fans had already expected the return of Conor McGregor for UFC 303 during International Fight Week. However, Dana White did not officially announce until the post-fight press conference of UFC 300. With Max Holloway bagging the biggest victory of his MMA career at UFC 300, Sonnen proposed an interesting idea at the ESPN MMA panel meeting.

I do believe Max Holloway has been trying to get to Conor [McGregor] for a long time, and all I'm suggesting for you is if Max wants to put up that BMF title and take his foot off the gas for just a minute, I'm telling you he could broker a deal with McGregor right now, should he get through Chandler.

The thought of McGregor fighting anybody other than Chandler made Michael Bisping intervene. He did not fully hear Sonnen as he had matchmaked the fight after McGregor’s fight with Chandler.

McGregor and Chandler coached opposite at TUF 31. However, the UFC could not get them to fight even after the season finale for various reasons. Nonetheless, as McGregor had finished his promotional obligation for the Road House movie, the Irishman was free to do what he liked to do best.

Michael Bisping is one of the very few fighters who transitioned well into a broadcasting career after the end of his MMA career. As a legend of the sport, Bisping has seen and done it all. The fighter was also the first fighter from the UK to hold an undisputed title.

Bisping has immense respect for Conor McGregor and was ecstatic after Dana White broke the news of McGregor’s return. The ESPN MMA Panel discussion showed Bisping’s admiration and respect for the Irishman.

Dana White announced that McGregor and Chandler would fight at welterweight. Both Chandler and McGregor, known for their explosive power, most often finished their fights quickly, if victorious. As such, excitement is at an all-time high like Bisping said. With both fighters not having to cut down to lightweight, McGregor vs. Chandler could potentially become a Fight of the Year candidate.
