“You got knocked out with a jab,” Leon Edwards and Gilbert Burns engage in Twitter war as ‘Rocky’ clowns Burns

A new rivalry has arose in the welterweight division of the UFC as Leon Edwards and Gilbert Burns seem to have traded verbal jabs yesterday on Twitter.

Gilbert Burns seemed to have a cold take off the Leon Edwards and Nate Diaz fight at UFC 263. The Brazilian welterweight contender was not impressed with the British-Jamaican’s performance given Diaz rocked the fighter in the last seconds of the fight. Leon dominated the whole fight against Nate Diaz but failed to capitalize the last few moments before the bell. He still managed to stay on his feet and win.

In an interview with SCMP MMA Burns spoke about his thoughts on UFC 263, his opponent Stephen Thompson, and former rival Kamaru Usman. Leon did not appreciate Burns’ comments and immediately wrote to him on Twitter. Gilbert said that ‘Rocky’ wasn’t hungry enough. To which Edwards responded, “You got knocked out with a jab.”

Gilbert in the interview said, “I think Edwards lost the shot just because he didn’t get a finish. He wasn’t hungry. Not even criticizing the guy. I think he fought very good. He’s a very smart fighter. But he’s not a finisher. If you go all day and sometimes just, as they say, bite the mouthpiece, and go forward, and finish the fight, sometimes you’re gonna get the shot.” After Leon responded to this, Burns wasn’t late to clap back with his own shot.

“Journeyman Nate almost knocked your ass out! When my hands touch you, you going to wake up at ICU,” wrote Burns on his Twitter. Burns is scheduled to fight Stephen Thompson in the co-main event of UFC 264. Leon wants a title shot but now will have to wait as the promotion is in the making of a Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman fight.
