Marlon Vera
Marlon Vera is one of the most exciting fighters on the UFC roster right now. Number 8 ranked bantamweight is a serious contender for the title, and his last knockout against the former champ, Frankie Edgar was something to behold. Vera is booked to face Rob Font next, and a win over him could catapult his career to great heights.
Vera’s last loss came against the legend, Jose Aldo, and even though it was a one-sided event, Vera saw the silver lining and improved his game to get back in the win column. Mentally, he’s in a great spot right now, but there was a time when he thought his career was over. Back in 2018, he lost two fights, and it was very hard for him to bounce back from those.
Talking about that on The MMA Hour, he said, “F***, those back-to-back losses were pretty hard mentality. I was a little depressed, and I thought my career was done. I was like, ‘F***, I can’t beat these guys.’ And I get it, back then, Lineker was No. 4, the guy was a big deal. And let’s be honest, I’m not the type of idiot that says, like, ‘Oh, he didn’t even touch me,’ but he really didn’t do much to me, and in the third round I ended it walking him down and winning the third round. But the fight after that I got a little beat up, so I was like, ‘F***, looks like I can’t win.’” (H/T MMAFighting.com)
“I’m grateful for that”– Marlon Vera thanks TJ Dillashaw for offering him help during his dark phase

Marlon Vera knew he had to make some changes to revive his career, and training under the banner of a new head coach helped him a lot. He turned to Jason Parillo, and it was the best thing that happened to him. “He’s very good at making sure this (mind) is good, so I think that was one of the things that moved my game up pretty well,” Vera said. “I think he took me to the next level, and you guys will see that soon. I think you guys saw a little bit with Frankie [Edgar], but you guys will see even more now that I have two more rounds to work [against Font].”
The second person who helped him was the former bantamweight champion, TJ Dillashaw. Talking about him, he said, “When I lost back-to-back, he basically opened the doors of his gym for me to get a different look and just kind of redo myself. So I respect that and I’m grateful for that.” (H/T MMAFighting.com)
