Michael Bisping compares Khamzat Chimaev and Conor McGregor
Former middleweight champion Michael Bisping makes a bold comparison between Conor McGregor and Khamzat Chimaev. ‘The Count’ believes the two fighters have shown similar outbursts at the beginning of their career.
Conor McGregor is undoubtedly the biggest superstar the UFC can ever imagine producing. The Irishman came into the UFC and changed the whole game with his personality. He was a phenomenon quite like no other in the game. After almost a decade, the UFC is witnessing another star in the making in Khamzat Chimaev. The Chechnyan welterweight has risen to the top of the chain in very little time. The sudden outburst of stardom for the “Borz” seems to impress the former middleweight champion, Michael Bisping.
Khamzat made his debut in the year 2020 and stunned the entire world by taking on two fights in a row within the span of 10 days. The fighter has finished all of his opponents in his career. He has a record of 10-0 in his professional career. Chimaev returned to the octagon in 2021 at UFC 267 where he took on the first ranked opponent in his career. He faced the #11 Li Jingliang and absolutely obliterated the ranked fighter.
The fighter from Chechnya gained a massive fan following after his victory in Abu Dhabi. The fighter has impressed everyone and is now in the talks for a fight against the Top five welterweights and also a super fight against the UFC superstar Nate Diaz. Bisping believes he has not seen someone come in with such hype since the earlier stages of McGregor’s career.

In the recent episode of his podcast, “Believe You Me”, the former middleweight now commentator drew a comparison between the outburst of Khamzat to that of McGregor. “Never since Conor have we seen someone come in and make such a splash. Obviously, he is from a different part of the world he won’t crossover as much. But he is going to be an absolute megastar,” said Bisping on his podcast about Chimaev.
Bisping said despite the fact that UFC 267 had the 42-year-old light heavyweight fighter, Glover Teixeira becomes the new champion of the division, Chimaev who has barely fought 5 fights in the UFC octagon stole the show with his performance and was making all the headlines. Khamzat outperformed Teixeira everywhere after his submission of Li in the fight. Michael and his mates on the podcast believe that Khamzat is a “headline diamond”.
